Poda-Poda Stories Writing Workshops

About the Workshop

Poda-Poda Stories Writing Workshops are standalone courses curated for Sierra Leonean writers* in various stages of their writing journey. During the six-week duration, writers meet weekly to participate in craft of writing lessons, discuss mentor texts, write, and receive feedback on their original works of fiction, nonfiction, or poetry. The workshop is facilitated by Poda-Poda Stories editors and guest writers. At present, these courses are offered annually as a virtual experience.

Below are some testimonials from the 2026 cohort of our fiction writing workshop:

“Completing this workshop has taught me to look at storytelling through a different lens, especially the power of “What if?” in developing ideas and possibilities. I’ve learned to pay closer attention to dialogue, characters, emotions, and the little details that bring a story to life.” — Mohamed Santhawahaj Bangura

“It was altogether an enriching experience. You don’t get to see emerging Sierra Leonean writers in one place. This workshop promised that and delivered excellently. The diversity of participants (with different interests in writing) and layers of knowledge on writing crafts was helpful on many levels. Kudos to the Poda-Poda Stories team for creating the platform.” — Melvin Sharty

“This workshop was well managed and executed. The facilitator was inclusive and very knowledgeable. I really loved interacting with fellow writers and the guidance from the workshop facilitator. It was very valuable.”— Janice Williams

Syllabi for our writing workshops are available to potential workshop participants upon request via email at editor@poda-poda.com.
